The weather is hot and sunny but here is a new issue of my roleplaying newsletter!
Latest articles published on the blog
Remember there is a translation widget in the sidebar!
I have (finally!) published the article I had planned long ago on Traveller, the ancestor of the science-fiction role-playing games, and its "free" version Cepheus. A game system that I like and that I will try sometime in the future (uh!).
I've put online some activities to do at the campfire after a long day of travel. An article and a game aid inspired by the video game Solasta and which gives some hooks to develop characters or create interactions during the journeys which are sometimes so tedious that they are passed under silence. This handout has been translated and is available for free on DriveThruRPG.
I go on with the sessions recap for my Adventures in Middle Earth campaign, with a detour to the Weathertop and the ruined city of Ost Guruth.
And lastly I found online a combat simulator for D&D so I had to check how its Artificial Intelligence could predict the outcome of a fight!
What's new at my gaming table?
We are now at session 36 of my campaign for D&D and the party has moved from Leilon to the Wayward Inn to find it attacked by the cult of Talos (as the cleric of the party is a follower of Talos too, that give great moments!). Then, they went back to Phandalin because there was, at last, a white dragon to kill!
I aslo mastered a Call of Cthulhu scenario, The Servants of the Lake, for a 4-persons party. We played two sessions to finish it and I was happy to introduce one new gamer to RPGs and another one to CoC. Both had fun with the game so it’s a win (even if their characters had to flee, half crazy, to Arkham!).
Readings and inspirations
I just read book 7 of the Black Compagny saga by Glen Cook. It’s not my favorite but I’m now waiting to read the next one soon. And I switched to scifi with Ronin, a Star Wars novel inspired by the Visions tv show on Disney+.
I’m a bit late in my readings of the d12 Monthly zines but I picked the number 14 issue about Feys. This one delves into their nature, including elves and adding three original species as well as speaking of their powers and magic. I might rely on it as I plan to design an adventure about a fey deity. An articles deals with art commissioning, which is interesting for us poor content creators! Read it, it’s free!
I'm still thinking about what I'd like to prepare for a mini-campaign that will mix Underdark (and for example the Out of the Abyss scenario) and the World of Greyhawk setting (as discussed in my previous letter). Maybe in 2023?
Patreon, tips, shop…
As said before, I released Campfire Activities for free (click here!) but I also just started a new series of battlemaps called Fantasy Places. The first one is a wilderness inn, and the second one is a blacksmith shop (the idea of this one comes from my friend and wonderful mapper Raznag). More to come!
