#053 - february 2026 TTRPG newsletter
Call of Cthulhu, OSE, Shadowdark, Elric
And here are my role-playing activities for February! This month has been quite busy professionally, so some things are taking a back seat for the moment, such as my blog and creations.
What’s new at my gaming table?
Barely begun, the Rise of the Drows campaign, where I am a player, has fallen victim to the “curse of scheduling,” and so we haven’t been able to play this month (school vacations didn’t help us find a slot...).
Like last month, I played a game at an open table, which was switched to the Old-School Essentials system. Coming from an AD&D derivative, we’re not lost, it must be said!
I hadn’t played Call of Cthulhu in quite a while, but that changed with the start of a mini-campaign in a coal mine where excavations have revealed strange things... There I play as a geology professor!
And then I still ran a game in the world of Kalendir, still in Shadowdark. Leaving a long forgotten tomb behind them for the moment, the small group followed a rumor that turned out to be false, since the small fortress near the village had not actually been taken by the orcs as it was said to them. On the other hand, there are many adventure hooks in the area and the choice will be difficult!
Readings
Continuing the Elric saga, in February I read the second volume, The Fortress of the Pearl, a title I had borrowed a few years ago for an elven city in the Western Marches of Kalendir! An oniric journey to the Dreamlands… I also read the french scifi magazine Bifrost, dedicated to an author I admire, particularly for her alternate histories, Jo Walton. I can’t say enough that you must read My Real Children.
Movies/series
I watched the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is “almost a spin-off” of Game of Thrones. My opinion on it is not very enthusiastic, but it seems I am in a minority about it as I see a lot of very positive reviews.
Creations, tips, shop…
I haven’t drawn much this month, but I am experimenting with different styles, particularly shading. I have also started a two-level map in Dungeon Alchemist, with a view to offering a medium-sized dungeon in the near future.
Left is without shadows, right is with some shadows. What do you think?
My creations are on DriveThruRPG and/or my Ko-fi shop.
