With a bit of a delay, here is the last letter for the month of april! Please make sure you have access to it by checking your spam folder.
Latest articles published on the blog
Recent articles have been about D&D, especially in view of the very rich news about this game these last days.
First of all, I caught up a bit with my return to the rules supplements with the reading and publication of a review of Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, devoted as it is predictable, to dragons! With a nod to Dragonlance, and rightly so, the D&D Direct event had a review of the releases for 2022 and 2023, with announcements of Dragonlance, Spelljammer and more! My article summarizes all this and also talks about the French translations, poor parents of this roleplaying game.
Future articles will be about MEGA and Traveller roleplaying games, I also plan to report on my campaign in Middle Earth and thoughts on the Lost Mine of Phandelver campaign. What are you most interested in? Write to me!
What's new at my gaming table?
I was able to finish a game of Call of Cthulhu as a player, with an atypical scenario involving two teams of characters, in a French mine at the bottom of which... no, I won't say anything, it's for your own good!
My Adventures in Phandalin (D&D) campaign continues, moving away from Phandalin (I'm almost at the end of the content of the two initiation kits, after 26 sessions, and I still skipped some of them). This time, directly to the Sword Coast where a lighthouse emits a mysterious glow that attracts ships, which then crash on the rocks. This is the occasion of a dilemma for one of the characters, a cleric who must oppose the desires of his god!
After a few weeks' break, the Adventures in Eriador (D&D-AiME) campaign has resumed. In the Trollshaws, a ruin was giving off an aura of evil, and a few cowardly adventurers set out to explore it and discover the reason for the corruption there. Now Elrond sends them on another mission, further to the north, on the trail of a group of orcs.
Readings and inspirations
I mentioned above the D&D releases, I'm especially waiting for Dragonlance, an universe for which I've been planning a campaign for a while. It might be the opportunity to play it at the end of the year or beginning of 2023. I have an old AD&D book, Dragonlance Adventures, bought second hand a few months ago and I'll take the opportunity to bring it back.
While preparing my future Dungeons and Dragons adventures in the extended region around Phandaline, I came across the site of an enthusiast who has done a lot of work on maps and created a fairly comprehensive guide to Neverwinter for 5th edition. It's true that this is a missing tool since even the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide is succinct about this city that was mistreated in 4th edition (it was partially devastated by a cataclysm) and little described since then. I'm still planning future sci-fi adventures with the 2d6 system from Traveller and I was able to take advantage of a promo on Drivethrurpg for Cepheus Deluxe, which is a 90% (or more) derivative and neighboring game system. This will give me some inspiration or complement for these rules that seem both simple and complete. I also completed with Cepheus Atom following a discussion with its author, it is a lighter version of the rules but oriented towards the post-apocalyptic. I will test all this this summer with a few games when my regular campaigns are on break.
I bought the Call of Cthulhu Keeper's Manual as a PDF and I'm thinking of starting to master it this summer with the scenarios from the starter box and the collection Doors to Darkness that I also have (and know a few stories from, as a player). Probably this summer for some one-shots.
